30 Laptops Short: A Milestone for Our Computer Equipment for Kids Program
As the clock ticks and the numbers roll in, we are just 30 laptops short of an incredible milestone—1000 devices distributed to kids in need through our computer equipment for kids program. It’s a moment of pride, but also a reminder of the ongoing work that still lies ahead.
When we first started this initiative, we didn’t know how it would grow. We knew there was a need—there always is—but seeing the journey unfold has been nothing short of inspiring. From humble beginnings, we’ve managed to provide devices that are transforming young lives. These laptops are more than just machines; they’re gateways to education, opportunities, and dreams.
The Need for Technology in Education
In today’s world, access to technology is no longer a luxury. It’s a necessity. With the majority of schools incorporating online learning, educational resources, and digital tools into their curricula, the digital divide has become more apparent than ever. For many kids, not having a computer means missing out on assignments, research, and the chance to develop essential skills.
That’s where our program comes in. By collecting and refurbishing old laptops, we’ve been able to provide refurbished devices to students who wouldn’t otherwise have access to them. The result? Hundreds of children now have the chance to succeed in school and beyond, regardless of their financial situation.
1000 Devices—A Huge Milestone
Reaching the 1000-device mark is a milestone that feels a bit surreal. A number like that speaks to the real impact we’ve made in the lives of children across communities. It represents more than just the total number of laptops we’ve distributed—it’s a symbol of our collective efforts, of every person who has donated, volunteered, or supported the cause in any way.
But as we look at the horizon, we realize we’re only scratching the surface. With so many kids still lacking the resources they need, the goal now is to push forward and make sure that every student who needs a device gets one. The gap is still there, and with every laptop we get closer to closing it.

Getting this far would not have been possible without the incredible support of our community—businesses, individuals, and organizations that have stepped up to donate old devices, offer funding, and volunteer their time. Each contribution, no matter how big or small, has made a difference.
It’s a reminder of how powerful we can be when we work together. Whether it's the company that donates their old devices, the volunteers who help refurbish them, or the donors who give financial support, everyone plays a role in this mission. And it’s not just about the numbers—it’s about the collective spirit that makes a difference in the lives of kids who need it most.
Looking Forward
As we sit 30 laptops short of reaching 1000 devices, we’re filled with a sense of both accomplishment and urgency. There are still so many kids who need help, so many schools and communities that are waiting for their turn to benefit from this program.
But the road ahead is bright. We know that with continued support, we’ll hit our goal and continue beyond it. We’re not just aiming for 1000—we’re aiming for more. We want every child to have the tools they need to succeed, and we won’t stop until we reach that goal.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Sylvester Renner the Co-Founder of Develop Africa.   The Computer Equipment for Kids Program has been helping Develop Africa for many years now but this was the first time we have been able to meet in person. The Develop Africa program  is an awesome program and continues to improve the lives of people in Sierra Leone.  The Computer Equipment for Kids Program provided 28 laptops and laptop bags to the program!    Thank you Sylvester!!  You are an inspiration to us all.

The Computer Equipment For Kids Program is happy to provide laptops to "Empowering Minds of Maryland's Youth".    The Empowering Minds of Maryland's Youth program is a non-profit organization that establish outreach programs for youth.

Mission: To empower children with life skills through mentoring, learning experiences, and artistic outlets. We will equip our youth for future successes by developing critical thinking, communication, and reasoning that will encourage them to develop a sense of value and understanding of personal and social responsibilities.

Goals: Empowering Minds of Maryland's Youth has been developed to help build and sustain a positive self image; while fostering critical thinking and reflection.  Our goal is to transform youth into young adults who have confidence, determination, self awareness, and self love.

As we close out 2022 I wanted to take some time to look back at the year.  This was by far the BEST year the Computer Equipment For Kids Program has had since we started this journey over 12 years ago.

Here is a breakdown of some of the numbers from 2022: 

• 233 Devices Donated!!
• 145  Devices Distributed to Students!!
• Devices were distributed to over 13 different Groups, Agencies, Schools, and Businesses many of these companies are listed on the Alliance of Awesomeness page!!
• Devices were distributed to over 5 Countries  (United States, Sierra Leone, Haiti,  Sudan, Nigeria)  

We are looking forward to 2023 and beating the numbers from 2022 :)
